DIY Room Sprays with Printable Labels

DIY- room sprays with printable labels-3

I’ve unintentionally started an essential oils collection due to prior soap and candle DIYs, so we gotta explore that a little more don’t you think?  Room sprays have been on my to-do list for so long, and with the soon changing season this felt like a good time to make some summer inspired scents, so here are three for you to try!  In addition to the recipes, I’ve partnered with Canon to bring you free printable labels to help these sit pretty on your dresser, nightstand, counter, anywhere you’d want to proudly display and use these (everywhere).

Canon MG7720 PrinterI used my PIXMA MG7720 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer to print the labels on these sticker adhesive sheets.  I made two versions of the labels: black and white and color!

Printable room spray labelsFor the best results, use a ruler and a rotary cutter or X-ACTO knife to cut out the stickers.  For extra best results, use a paper cutter guillotine (major wish list alert.  Only thing holding me back from getting one is I have no space for it!)

For the room sprays, I referred to this guide for the basic recipe as follows to approximately fill an 8oz bottle:

1/2 cup distilled water
1/2 cup vodka or witch hazel
20-30 drops essential oil

I tried both vodka and witch hazel hoping one would work better than the other, but they work the same, so which one to use is only a matter of your preference.  The alcohol helps the oil and water mix, though some beading will still occur.  Mix the oil and alcohol in a bowl first before adding water for slightly better results!

Regarding the essential oil blends, I’m not at all a pro and believe this is about experimentation so I highly encourage you to play with combos and ratios.  I felt like a potions master wannabe dropping this and that here and there, and these were my favorite summery scents.

For the containers, I used these frosted glass and clear glass spray bottles.  I think I’m digging the frosted glass more, what about you?

DIY room sprays with printable labelI should at least mention these would make amazing favors or gifts.  I imagine them looking swell in something like a housewarming gift basket.  Just please don’t forget to make them for yourself, ok?

  1. I am going to have to try these. I think they would make great gifts, as my sister and mom are obsessed with anything with only a few ingredients AND essential oils. Love it, thanks for sharing!

  2. I’m curious as to why one would use witch hazel instead of isopropyl alcohol. The alcohol in the witch hazel is what you want. Unless you are using actual pure witch hazel for the witch hazel smell?

    Thanks!

    1. From what I’ve read (because I’m not an expert on this), isopropyl alcohol has a lot of impurities and isn’t safe for aromatherapy. Besides that, I’ve also read that the scent is more overpowering, but I think all the alcohol options smell not so great ;)

  3. Wow! Just great! Thanks so much for sharing this idea! Where did you get the glass bottles from? I can’t find anything like it …

    1. That’s why I’m on this site too, I don’t like all the chemicals in the pet shop sprays and the smell is never great. These look gorgeous!

  4. Looove this! And the frosted glass is definitely my favorite! Are you still using them? I’m new to the essential oils thing and I’ve heard that once you add water, you need to be careful to use it promptly before it spoils or goes moldy. I mean it’s not been that long since this post but just curious about how you’ve experienced the shelf life of these (even more having them on clear colored bottles instead of dark ones).

    1. Hi Ingrid! So far so good. I used distilled water because I read about how minimizing impurities is super important, which I assume is related with your concerns about spoiling on top of keeping things safe for inhalation. You’re right it hasn’t been that long but I’m happy to update you again later if you want to follow up!

      1. Thank you for the update! You inspired me to try it and I made it with white grapefruit oil since my Murchison Hume natural cleaners are that smell, to keep it cohesive, and boy I love it! Thank you for sharing this project! And yes, an update would be nice just to see how yours did :) i had to do a cobalt glass bottle to match our white, gray and turquoise colors :) and I went with vodka! Smells a bit at the begging and then it’s gone, so yay!
