What to Do With Leftover Fabric

What to do with leftover fabric

Ok, so I STILL had leftover fabric after covering the magnet board I shared earlier this week.  I know.  I promise guys, this is the last you’ll be seeing of this fabric!  Just finishing it off with a quick post showing you what I did with the rest of it.

First, this boring pencil cup was something I’ve been wanting to cover up for while.

Pencil cup

All I did was apply Mod Podge on the outer surface, wrap the pre-measured and pre-cut fabric around the cup, and wipe off any Mod Podge on the inside that seeped through the holes in the cup.

I’m going to be using it to hold my scissors (why I have multiple I don’t know except for the Fiskars, which are bomb) and it’ll now match nicely with my fabric lid boxes, which made a cameo appearance in the photo above ;).

DIY pillow cover

This here is my first ever DIY pillow cover!  It was so easy, and I’m holding myself back from making a bajillion more.  I followed the no sew tutorial at Live Love DIY and I think this is such a great way to use up leftover fabric, especially if you really love the pattern.

Finally, let’s take one last look at the magnet board I shared previously, especially if you missed it!

You can see how I did it here.

What do you do with your leftover fabric?  I’d love to know in case I end up in this same surplus of fabric again, which I probably will ;).

  1. I love the fabric boxes! So cute!

Im a nut for smell goods, so I make mine into little sachets that I fill with lavender and put in my drawers so my clothes smell amazing. :)

  2. Seems you’ve read my mind again. I was already sold on the magnet board, I might as well add a coordinated pencil cup! I tried to (unsuccessfully) decoupage wastepaper basket with leftover fabric, but this seems like a more sensible idea :)

  3. Its so funny how I’m instantly drawn to your posts at link parties!
I just found myself with extra fabric and was wondering what to do with it..thanks!!
Oh and ilove the black and while fabric you used :)

  4. Thanks for the great ideas, I always keep any scraps that are big enough to be useable (I have a box full in the wardrobe and a suitcase full in the loft) but it’s just wrong to throw things away if you can use them. Some of our cushion covers are looking very sad, you have inspired me to get my stash out and so something about that this weekend!

  5. Great idea mod podging the fabric to the pen holder, I’m going to do that! I also love the pillow and magnetic board, I need one of those as well. Thanks Amy, these are fab

  6. I second the making of lavender sachets! My favorite though, was when I was a kid and my sister and I would dig through my mom’s huge fabric stash to make Barbie clothes :). We were way too old to play with Barbies, but not to play fashion designer!

  7. Thanks for the inspiration. We always have leftover fabric sitting around. Maybe one of us will be get going and try your ideas! If you hadn’t heard we just opened our site to bloggers who submit their big pics with links to their posts on our Simply BeBetsy. Your ideas are perfect so if you get a chance come by – you’ll find info on the Home Page, It’s kind of like a link party only bigger and every day. Thanks! will be back soon. ~ sharon and denise

  8. use your left over fabric and liquid starch and use it on your kitchen backsplash.. when it gets dirty, throw it in the wash and after drying, add the starch and put it back on.
